RFID Technology Helps Retail Store Personnel Flow Monitoring to Prevent Overcrowding

  • 2021/08/18

For a long time, some retailers have relied on staff management to achieve proper social distancing and prevent overcrowding, but RFID technology can automate many of these tasks, saving personnel costs and preventing errors. RFID technology has been widely used in automated retail environments, such as inventory replenishment and inventory placement, and has become an adaptable, flexible, and highly customizable option.

Recently, the Australian company TAGNology designed a traffic control system based on RFID technology for retailers to manage customer capacity. This system has a dispenser that can issue RFID electronic tags affixed to clothes to customers waiting in line. Through the RFID access door at the entrance, the RFID system can track everyone who enters and exits the store. Once the capacity is reached, the traffic light will be red for the next person to wait. After someone leaves, the light turns green and the next person in the line can enter. The RFID read-write device can record the number of each person in the store and restrict entry according to the maximum allowable capacity set by the system. Each customer who has an RFID tag through the RFID reader is equal to an extra count that will be accurately recorded.
